Data recovery Thanks for the
idea, Data Recovery lab (mumbai), but it was unsuccessful. I ran a new
hyperterminal session, skipped the spinup command (U), and went straight for the
SMART erase command (N1) in level 1 (F3 1>). After entering the N1 command the
next two lines appeared: LED: 000000CC FAddr: 0025DDD9 LED: 000000CC
FAddr: 0025DDD9 From this point the HDD was not taking any new commands
from terminal and continued repeating line by line during what seemed like 1 min
intervals until I removed power from the HDD, replaced the cardstock and turned it
back on, at which point the HDD was willing to take terminal commands again.
Should I just bypass the SMART erase cmd and go straigh for partition
regeneration? Am I missing a few steps along the way? Thanks for your help. Ted
There are many variations on this particular solution, as it applies to many different
drives. Trial and error on your own drive with valuable data seems risky at best. If
you are getting a clicking sound then it sounds like you may have an entirely
different problem.
